Library Display Stand

Designed with a nod to the days when dictionaries were prominently displayed in public libraries for easy access, this stand was built with both function and beauty in mind. White Oak was used in the construction with an overall Craftsman aesthetic. In keeping with that aesthetic, traditional joinery such as the hand cut dovetails on the upper case and the through mortise and tenons on the base are prominently displayed. To achieve the warm brown tones, the oak was “fumed” with ammonia which reacts with the tannins in the wood, this was a common technique in the early 1900’s and is one of the characteristic features of traditional Craftsman furniture.
