Crescent Bench

The Crescent Bench was a happy accident resulting from a trip to a local lumber yard. On occasion I’ll come across a piece of wood that jumps out and I'll know instantly what it will be. This piece of live edge black walnut was tucked away in a dusty corner but the moment I saw it I knew there was a beautiful bench hidden inside. Originally over 10’ long, the off cuts from each end were repurposed to become the legs. The straight line along the top of the stretcher provides a contrast to the raw natural curves of the walnut while the bright, curly maple pops next to the warm dark tomes of the walnut. Simultaneously the curved underside of the stretcher subtly mimics the curve of the bench. Held together with tusk tenons this traditional joinery showcases the craftsman’s skills as a compliment to nature’s beauty.
